Left vs Right

A concept-map exploring the Left vs Right political spectrum. A collaboration between David McCandless and information artist Stefanie Posavec, taken from my book The Visual Miscellaneum (out Nov 10th).

I’ll admit that it was this diagram that finally made me understand the difference between right and left wing politics.

Not that I’ve ever been that interested – I’m not your most faithful West Wing fan – but it’s one of those things everyone should know.

This post part of Blogtober 2009. We’re pretty much there.

What a Wonderful L4D

I play Left 4 Dead waaaay too much. It deserves a vid. Please ignore the lag spikes and such, i rushed this out over 2 days and didn’t really have time to fix up all the bugs. The GTA4 machinima i talked about a while back is impossible now unfortunatly, my trainers don’t work for it any more.

We’re sure you’ll agree: Pretty convincing. Granted, it took lopping the fingers off two staff members’ hands to get the lighting reference perfect, but since those didn’t appear on the box, we think we’re legally in the clear.

I *love* how Valve have an excellent sense of humour.

Left 4 Dead 2 hands-on 4 you

Significant improvements have been made to level design, utilizing the expertise of Portal designer Kim Swift. Some levels will have sections that have changing layouts. Faliszek mentioned a graveyard that would be different for every playthrough, for example. The AI Director can make the path through the graveyard longer or shorter depending on how well the Survivors are doing. Another level begins in total daylight, but darkens as a storm rolls in. The storm reduces visibility to nearly nothing, making it hard to spot zombies and, worse, teammates (their outlines won’t appear in the fog). Faliszek compared it to the cornfield in L4D’s “Blood Harvest.”

WANT. NOW.

November can’t come fast enough – that being said, I wanted iPhone OS 3.0 back whenever it was announced, and that’s almost here… 🙂
